..........What, Where, How, When??
Originally forming a song writing partnership with his cousin Liam Stewart, he moved to Ireland in 1992 and had a successful four years with his band “Jopus” Highlights included supporting “An Emotional Fish” & “The Frames”, regular reviews in the national music paper “Hot Press” Live Radio appearances on Local, Student & National “RTE” radio! Playing gigs in some of Ireland’s premier music venues “Roisin Dubh, Galway” “McRory’s, Culdaff” to name but a few! Jopus also released several successful Ep’s during this time.
Returning to the UK in 1996 Jopus continued with the same success playing venues like “The Leadmill, Sheffield” It was at this time when Lance aquired his reputation as one of the Uk’s most innovative guitarists! Jopus were gaining great press on the live scene as well as for there Indie/ Blues/ Alternative sound! Lance was then forced to quit the live music scene in 97 because of an hearing problem. The band decided to split but Lance continued writing music and putting out EP's online. During this time he began to develop his skills as a songwriter and musician and is now excellent on numerous instruments. He began to experiment with new sounds, songwriting concepts, and even worked and produced some other bands and artists. Once the hearing problem had settled down he reformed Jopus with his brother Luke, and again Dave Simpson on drums from 2001 - 2003. The band enjoyed much success. Again playing venues all over the UK & touring Ireland. In 2003 they released the “Rubber Nature” EP on confidential records to much acclaim. The EP continues to sell and enjoy’s radio play all over the world! Lance also signed a publishing deal with Maori Music Publishing in 2003.
2004 saw a tragedy strike with the sudden death of his mother & sister from cancer in 2004. Lance was also badly injured in a motorcycle accident in August 04. He decided to take time out from music to be with his family and became an avid campaigner and fundraiser for Cancer Research UK. His has since used his love of motorcycles to raise funds and awareness for the charity.
..........What now??
June 2004 and Lance has now returned to music. Drawing on an emotional 18 months for inspiration, Lance will be demoing new tracks in June & July, and rehearsing for live shows later in the summer. He has no plans to form a band at this time and he is looking forward to working solo. The shows will be an electric mix of Jopus & solo songs old & new!
Lance is at this time looking for professional management, recording, releases and promotion.
