Steve Bartolotta

Rock music by Steve Bartolotta from USA. Currently without a record label.

Like colors filling a canvas in my brain, the music comes. It comes without an invitation and without a warning. It steals the twilight hours as I pretend to try and sleep, It forces me to leave fragmented song ideas on my voice mail at work. In my graveled morning voice I leave the voice mails and retrieve the ideas. Sometimes I am able to let them rest in the temporary abeyance of the phone system until I have more time to record them—other times the music won't permit it.

It all started as a child, creating and singing songs for fun and more accurately to tease and defend against teasing from other kids. The melodies, though simple, would come. Like some crazy gadget secret weapon that Batman pulls out of his utility belt to spoil Catwoman's evil plot. The music came... even then.

I'm Steve Bartolotta from Rochester, New York. Today music is my career. As the composer for Markethold Productions, I write, record and produce original music scores for radio, tv, video and film. Not too long ago I engineered a session that featured one of the Eastman School of Music's star vocalists. As she sat in the studio and listened to my music she looked up and said, "Beautiful... where did you go to school for music?" A very fair and popular question. Although I always answer, "well... I took music theory in college and high school you know," which is the truth, the real answer is the University of my brain. When Mick Jagger wrote She Comes In Colors, he was talking about the music in my head. The way I see it, you can learn many things in life including the ability to play, perform and even arrange music—but, the ability to create is rare.

My music is currently played on radio all over the country. I have written theme songs and compositions for several professional sports teams including pieces that play during Detroit Pistons and Buffalo Bills games. I've worked with a variety of recording artists and producers in my 20 years in the music industry and I've played and sang in many bands. I don't know why the music comes to me, but it is my dear friend. The sleep it steals is replaced with a warmth and excitement that fills my soul.
